Privacy & Cookie Policy

How this website collects, uses and protects your personal information, and the choices you have.

Who I am

This website belongs to Miriam Kavanagh Counselling and Psychotherapy, 1 Abbey Terrace, Monasterevin Road, Kildare, R51 XV70. In this policy, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Miriam Kavanagh. I am responsible for the personal information described here.

You can contact me about your information at mtktherapy@gmail.com or on 087 748 5717.

What I collect and why

  • Enquiries: when you contact me through the form on this website, by email or by phone, I receive the details you give me, such as your name, email address, phone number and message. I use them to reply to you and arrange a first appointment. My lawful basis is taking steps at your request before we agree to work together, and my legitimate interest in answering enquiries.
  • Website analytics: how the website is used, collected with cookies only if you agree. My lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Spam protection: the contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to block automated spam. My lawful basis is my legitimate interest in keeping the form secure.
  • Technical data: my hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the website secure.

Your enquiry

Please don’t include details about your health, or what you would like to work on, in the website form. We can talk about that in person, in confidence. If you do include them, I use them only to reply to your enquiry.

Enquiries are sent to me by email. If we don’t go on to work together, I delete your enquiry within 12 months, and sooner if you ask me to. If you become a client, your information is kept confidential and handled in line with the record-keeping requirements of my professional bodies, which I will explain at our first session.

Who I share it with

I never sell your information. I only share it with service providers who help me run this website and my email, under terms that require them to keep it secure: my web hosting and email providers, my website provider, who maintains this website, and Google (reCAPTCHA, and website analytics if you accept analytics cookies). I may also share information where the law requires it.

Website analytics and cookies

I use Google Analytics, provided by Google Ireland Limited, to understand how visitors use this website: for example which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are (town or country), what device they use and how they found the site. I also count when the contact form is sent and when the phone number or email address is clicked. The content of your enquiry is never sent to Google. Google Analytics does not store your IP address, and I do not use it to identify you. Google may process this data outside the EEA under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Analytics data is kept for no more than 14 months.

Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the round cookie button at the bottom left of every page, or this cookie settings link.

Cookies used on this website

  • jz_consent (this website, necessary): remembers your cookie choices, 6 months.
  • _GRECAPTCHA (Google reCAPTCHA, necessary): protects the contact form from spam, 6 months.
  • _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics, analytics, only with your consent): count visits and show how the website is used, up to 2 years.

The map on this website is provided by Google Maps. When it loads, Google may receive information such as your IP address, under Google’s own privacy policy.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, and ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, contact me at mtktherapy@gmail.com. If you are not happy with how I handle your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
